McLaren Applied Technologies, a member of the McLaren Group, has today announced plans to significantly increase its investment in, and expansion of, its strategic presence and capabilities in Singapore over the period 2018-2020. This capability increase will initially be focused on solving crucial challenges to improve people's lives in the areas of health and public transport in Asia Pacific.

At the 2013 Singapore Grand Prix, McLaren Applied Technologies announced that it would establish its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore, to draw upon the country’s world-leading engineering talent and its position as a gateway to fast-growing markets across the region.

Since then, and with the support of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), McLaren Applied Technologies has successfully recruited and developed a diverse cadre of talented experts, providing high-performance technology and design solutions to the McLaren Group’s partners and customers in Singapore and beyond. It has also developed successful collaboration in data analytics, modelling and simulation with local research institutions such as A-STAR and I2R and is a founding member of SGInnovate.

The McLaren Applied Technologies vision for its next phase of growth in Singapore over the next three years is to accelerate its role as a leading player in Singapore’s innovation ecosystem, supporting the development of Singapore-based talent into commercially aware technologists, scientists and engineers who can develop and launch world-class product solutions to complex problems, initially in the areas of health and transport in Singapore and beyond.

To achieve this, McLaren Applied Technologies Singapore will draw from McLaren Group’s deep domain expertise in engineering, sensors, connectivity, data analytics, modelling, advanced simulation and high-performance design in order to provide game-changing technology solutions across the Asia-Pacific region.

Having already grown since 2013 to be the largest McLaren operation outside the UK, this further expansion to McLaren Applied Technologies’ Singapore presence and capability will see local headcount double over the next three years, overseen by an expanded local leadership team.

Dick Glover, Acting CEO, McLaren Applied Technologies, said:

"Both Singapore and the wider Asia-Pacific region remain critical to the future success of the wider McLaren Group, and particularly so for McLaren Applied Technologies, as one of the group’s key growth engines.

"Through this additional investment, our aspiration is to use our fresh thinking and innovation to solve crucial challenges and improve people’s lives in Singapore and Asia Pacific, initially in the areas of health and transport.

"As a world-renowned UK Technology Group recognised for its innovation, we aim to increase our contribution to Singapore’s innovation ecosystem and its ‘Smart Nation’ vision. We are delighted to continue to receive support and guidance from EDB over the next three years in order to help us get there.

"At the same time, we will increase our role in helping to develop Singapore’s best talent into world-class innovators capable of producing game-changing solutions to complex problems. A win-win-win-win for Singapore, the UK, McLaren and our customers."
