Avanti West Coast selects McLaren Applied to enhance passenger experience with high-speed connectivity technology
McLaren Applied today announces a landmark deal to equip Avanti West Coast’s flagship rail network with its patented connectivity solution, Fleet Connect.
Avanti West Coast recently announced a £45m investment to upgrade mobile coverage partnering with BT to improve connectivity with new mobile infrastructure. As part of the investment, Avanti West Coast will be upgrading the On Board Wi-Fi system to improve connectivity to the train for customers, using Fleet Connect by McLaren Applied.
Fleet Connect redefines wireless performance in transport by enabling the most stable connectivity for trains travelling at high speed. Fleet Connect is to be deployed across a total of 99 Pendolino, Voyager and AT300 trains, delivering unparalleled connectivity and an enhanced passenger experience.
The 10 Gbps platform, an industry first for UK rail, brings high-speed connectivity to a range of systems across the company’s fleet, from passenger Wi-Fi, to Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS), CCTV video analytics and passenger Information. McLaren Applied will provide service support and Fleet Connect’s flexible framework will enable Avanti West Coast to integrate additional technologies in the future. Fleet Connect will allow Avanti West Coast to deliver a seamless customer experience to passengers with a stable stream of connectivity.
Phil Whittingham, Managing Director at Avanti West Coast commented on the announcement, “We want Avanti West Coast to stand out from our competitors, and being at the forefront of innovation in the UK rail industry is a key part of that. This deal will give our customers unrivalled connectivity, faster data speeds and extended coverage on our route.”
“I’m proud that McLaren Applied can deliver Fleet Connect to such a crucial route for UK rail as we look to further develop our offering in this space. We`re pleased to be pioneering the future by delivering best in class connectivity and an enhanced passenger experience, not only to Avanti West Coast’s newest trains but also the existing fleet”, said Paul Bebbington, Director, Transport at McLaren Applied.
