After spending eighteen years in the broadcast industry, the last five of which running automation projects at telecommunications giant Ericsson, Magnus Stewart joined McLaren Applied in search of a new challenge.
So, what drove an Engineer enjoying a comfortable environment to pack up, move and take on new challenges at fast-paced company like McLaren Applied?
Magnus said: “Although McLaren is such an alluring, world-renowned brand, what impresses me most is the focus on elite engineering throughout the whole Group. The innovative and pioneering spirit within the company is one of the main reasons why I joined.”
“It’s one thing to use existing technologies to find a solution to a problem, but at McLaren Applied, we’re creating our own solutions in both software and hardware, which is a major attraction.”
As Communication Systems Manager, Magnus’ role entails managing a team to develop new communications-oriented products and deploy them to customers around the world. The team is currently small, but plans to double in size in the next year to be able to satisfy R&D and customer demands.
“My first project in public transport is a perfect example of how McLaren Applied is applying decades of insight extracted from F1 to multiple industries. We’re currently working with a train operator to enhance the communications for both passenger and trains on a scale the UK hasn’t experience before. In fact, multiple teams across McLaren Applied are collaborating to innovate and deliver the future of intelligent mobility which excites me.”
In the automotive space, we’re working with McLaren Automotive to create a new communications system within their vehicles. And I’m also excited at the prospect of working with Deloitte to solve some of the major challenges regarding Industry 4.0.
After just three months, I’m fully involved in some of the most exciting projects of my career, and I’m looking forward to what 2018 brings for both myself and for McLaren Applied.
