NORBERT HAUG

Norbert Haug started his career as a trainee at the daily newspaper in his home town of Pforzheim. His enthusiasm for everything with wheels and an engine, particularly for race cars, brought Norbert Haug to the Stuttgart publishing house Motor-Presse-Verlag, combining his love of the sport with his professional interests.

Since October 1990, Norbert has been responsible for all the Mercedes-Benz motor sport activities; a period which has seen Mercedes-Benz collect championship titles in all motor sport categories they have entered. Mika Hakkinen won the 1998 and 1999 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championships and in 1998, Team McLaren Mercedes clinched the Constructors’ World Championship.

Throughout the 1990s Mercedes-Benz were also the German Touring Car (DTM) champions in 1992, 1994 and 1995; International Touring Car (ITC) champions in 1995; in 1994 Al Unser, Jr. won the Indianapolis 500 in a Penske-Mercedes; in 1997, Mercedes-Benz were top of the manufacturer’s ratings in the American CART Championships; in 1997 and 1998, AMG Mercedes won both the drivers’ and team titles in the FIA GT Championships. Since its relaunch in 2000, Mercedes-Benz have taken five out of eight titles in the DTM with Bernd Schneider in 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2006 and with Gary Paffett in 2005. The final race of the 2007 DTM season at Hockenheim was the 300th race for Mercedes-Benz in the championship. Jamie Green's victory in Hockenheim was the brand's 141st race win in DTM.
