McLAREN AUTOSPORT BRDC YOUNG DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award was set up in 1989 to recognise and reward the talents of up-and-coming racing drivers.
As well as the kudos of winning the yearly award, recipients are given a valuable cash prize to help fund their racing programme, and a test in a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 car.
Former McLaren driver, David Coulthard was the first recipient of the award in 1989. Eighteen drivers have benefited from the award since including current Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Jenson Button.
Martin Whitmarsh, Team Principal Vodafone McLaren Mercedes commented: "I have always believed that companies such as McLaren have an important role to play in nurturing future generations of Grand Prix drivers. The fact that we have now provided 18 young drivers with the same opportunity as a result of this award is incredibly pleasing."
