McLaren Formula 1 launches on Google Plus
McLaren Mercedes will mark its official expansion into Google+ on Wednesday January 9th by holding a Google+ hangout with new driver Sergio Perez.
A selection of fans – invited to register their interest by submitting their chosen questions through the team’s official social networking channels – will have the unique opportunity for a video conference with the Mexican driver.
The hangout represents the first significant activity delivered though Google+ for McLaren Mercedes on a channel which provides new opportunities to circulate rich and insightful content, engaging fans from across the world while extending the opportunities available to partners.
As part of the team’s new social media landscape, Google+ will further enhance fans’ opportunities to receive real time, behind-the-scenes content both inside and outside of race weekends, complimenting the team’s established presence on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and the rich content and multimedia resource that is the official McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 website.

McLaren Mercedes’ growing fanbase on Google+ will supplement its established network across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more recently Instagram. On Facebook the number of McLaren Mercedes followers has grown to more than 615,000, whilst @McLarenF1 – at the forefront of the team’s social media presence since McLaren Mercedes joined Twitter in 2009 – has more than 275,000 followers, becoming one of Formula 1’s most widely read official writers.
Expansion into the new social media platforms demonstrates innovation is at the heart of McLaren Mercedes’ communications as it is in a number of other areas both on and off the track.
