ReLIVE the 2013 German Grand Prix
Jenson Button finishes in sixth place and Sergio Perez in eigth place in pulsating 2013 German Grand Prix. McLaren LIVE relayed live radio chat and commentary from inside the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes garage throughout the race, here's your chance to ReLIVE the action as it unfolded.
On the Grid
As always, there’s a huge crowd in at the Nürburgring. It’s 25°C ambient, track temp is currently 43°C.
Jenson lines up on the grid in P9, Checo in P13.
The grid is formed… red lights going on. Go!
Great start for Checo! Up to P10. Jenson holds P9.
Checo passes Jenson at Turn One. The soft tyre gets up to temperature much quicker – it's also around 1.5s a lap faster.
Checo radio talk: "Checo, double-waved yellows into Turn One, DRS disabled."
DRS in enabled again. There are DRS zones on the start-finish and back straights.
Checo radio talk: "Box this lap, confirm."
Checo pits and swaps to the Prime tyre.
Jenson radio talk: "OK Jenson, pace is good. Let's hunt down ALO."
With the Option runners pitting, Jenson is now P3 and chasing down ALO.
Checo is currently P12, within DRS range of RIC.
Eleven laps of the German Grand Prix completed. Jenson P4, Checo P12.
Jenson radio talk: "OK Jenson, tyres look OK, we're still gapping the cars behind, this looks good."
Jenson inherits P2 after GRO pits from a very long Option stint and ALO pits from a very short Prime stint. VET now leads.
Jenson radio talk: "This pace is good, it's strong. Let's gap the cars behind and get the free air for the next stint."
Checo radio talk: "There are three cars in front who have yet to stop. When they do we can get in front of them. This position is good."
The entire field is running on the Prime tyre, though some have already done a stint on the Option. Lots of strategy to play out.
Checo now up to P9 as cars around make stops.
Jenson radio talk: "OK Jenson, box this lap. We need everything you've got on this"
Lap 21 of the German Grand Prix. Jenson pits for the first tiome to take on another set of Prime tyres. Smooth stop. He squeaks out just in front of Checo. They're running P5 and P6 with a second between them and HUL close behind.
Safety car! BIA had an engine blow-up, he got out safely from the burning car but it has rolled back onto the track.
Lap 24. Checo pits under the safety car and takes on another set of Prime tyres.
Checo radio talk: "MAL, HUL and Jenson ahead have only stopped once, other cars have stopped twice. Lots more temperature into the brakes."
The safety car peels off, Jenson holds P5 and Checo P9 at the restart.
Checo radio talk: "MAL in front is going to be pitting for an Option at the end. He's going to be doing a long stint. Try to get in front of him if you can."
Jenson radio talk: "OK Jenson, this pace is good, let's keep it up."
Checo radio talk: "Great job getting past MAL! We're in a strong position now."
The safety car collapsed the field but gaps are starting to open now. Jenson is 4s behind ALO and 4s ahead of HAM. Checo is 4.5s behind HAM.
On lap 40 Jenson P5, Checo P7.
Jenson radio talk: "OK Jenson, the leaders are all stopping again. Your pace is still strong."
Jenson up to P3 as GRO and then VET make tyre stops.
Of the current top ten, ALO, Jenson and MAL definitely have to stop again as they are yet to run the Option tyre.
Checo up to P6 as HAM pits.
Jenson radio talk: "Box this lap. We will be racing at the exit. It's going to be tight. We need to overtake some cars but we can do this."
Jenson pits from P3 to take on the Option tyre. He's away in P6, behind Checo in P5.
Jenson radio talk: "Car in front is Checo. 12 laps to go, we can push to the end."
Jenson passes Checo at Turn One. He has a huge speed advantage with the new Options versus the old Primes.
Checo radio talk: "Checo, eight laps to go, HAM 7s behind now. Keep your pace up."
Jenson radio talk: "Last lap was 1:34.5. The traffic in front is CHI."
Checo now P7 having been passed by HAM.
Three laps to go and no resolution to any of the placings. Jenson is 3.7s ahead of HAM, Checo 4.5s ahead of WEB.
Jenson holds P5, 1.9s ahead of HAM, Checo P6, 2.4s ahead of WEB. Close finish in store.
Jenson finishes the German Grand Prix in P6, Checo P8 – both racing all the way to the line.
Jenson radio talk: "Great job this week. P6 is a good finish. The safety car didn't help us but it's a good effort and our best finish for a while."
