ReLIVE the Santander British Grand Prix
The sun shone at Silverstone for the 2013 Santander British Grand Prix and the grandstands were packed with McLaren colours from corner-to-corner. In an eventful race, McLaren LIVE relayed the live radio chat between Jenson and Checo with their mechanics from inside the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes garage. Here's your chance to ReLIVE the action as it happened.
On the Grid
The cars are on the grid, buried somewhere in the middle of a large crowd. The crews are going through their grid procedures. After a penalty for DIR awarded after qualifying, Jenson is starting from P10 and Checo from P13.
Jenson makes a good start, up to P8, Checo up to P12.
Jenson has now dropped back to his starting position of P10 but Checo is up to P11. The two cars running nose to tail.
Checo passes Jenson to take P10. The Option tyre he has should be around half a second quicker than the Prime on Jenson's car.
WEB makes the pass for P11 and closes on Checo.
Left rear punctures for HAM and MAS and normal pitstops start also.
Jenson radio talk: "Ok Jenson, box this lap."
Jenson pits. He has a smooth stop and exits on the Prime tyre.
The order is mixed between those stopping and those staying out – Checo up to P4, Jenson in P13.
Checo radio talk: "Box this lap!"
Checo stops on Lap 13 at Silverstone. He swaps from the Option to the Prime tyre and makes a smooth exit.
Safety car (1)
Jenson radio talk: "Brake temperatures are coming up now, keep warming your brakes."
Checo radio talk: "It might take a while for these guys to sweep the whole circuit!"
Checo loses P8 to WEB at the restart. Jenson holds P10.
Jenson is sneaking up to the battle between Checo and WEB. Now just 1.1s behind his team-mate.
Jenson radio talk: "OK Jenson, I need you to push now if you can. Tyres are good, push now."
Checo radio talk: "Let's really push now, make use of the clear track."
Jenson pits for another set of Option tyres. He exits in P13.
Checo pits. He takes on the Option tyre and gets out just in front of GRO and Jenson.
Checo radio talk: "Great job before the pitstop, we're currently in P10. We have a great chance of making more places. 17 laps to go after this one."
Checo passes MAS and takes P9.
Now Jenson passes MAS who immediately pits.
14 laps to go but lots of wheel-to-wheel racing ahead. Checo is P8, Jenson is P10.
Jenson passes GRO and takes P9. He's 3.7s behind Checo with 13 laps to run.
Safety Car (2)
VET stops on the start-finish line.
This changes the complexion of things. There will be a sprint finish to the British Grand Prix when the safety car comes in.
ALO on fresh tyres passes Jenson for P7.
Checo radio talk: "Stop the car Checo, stop the car, switch the engine off, there's too much damage to the car."
Checo is wheeled back into the garage. Massive damage to the lefthand sidepod and exhaust.
Jenson has dropped to P12 in the melee.
Checo talks to his engineers in the garage. Nothing anyone could do.
Jenson passed by MAL, falls to P13.
ROS wins the British Grand Prix from WEB, ALO, HAM, RAI, MAS, SUT, RIC, DIR and HUL.
Jenson finished P13 and Checo retired 6 laps from home.
